Set in the Docks ward of Waterdeep on Tower Trail not far from East Torch Tower is an astounding tribute to not only the Goddess Tymora but also the greed of man. The Rotunda is a large round building that once inside is designed like a wagon wheel. Each area of the wheel has different gambling games to offer, places to eat, or drink, etc. The center of the wheel is the main gambling floor; the spokes are the walkways between the other areas all leading to the main floor. The outer circle houses horses and carriages, the center circle is split into 8 separate sections with a walkway between each that leads down to the main gambling floor. Guards are stationed throughout, though they are unseen and move about in no particular pattern. The magic that enchants them makes them undetectable unless you are in possession of a certain special symbol that all Rotunda employees possess. This symbol may come in the shape of a broach, lapel pin, medallion, anything imaginable, but it is keyed to it’s owner and allows them certain abilities. Thievery is frowned upon as well as unauthorized fighting. Large columns ring the main gaming floor and run the lengths of each ramp. The columns are carved to look like huge people from all races upholding the ceiling.
The outer circle has four large entrances at the compass points for carriages and horses to enter. Between each is another smaller door for on-foot visitors to enter. The second floor outer ring is used as a racing track with a ramp leading up from the first. The outer circle on the third and fourth floors are balconies.
The food and drink bars each have stationed a foodgolem to offer you the refreshments of your choice. There are tables and a bar at each for relaxing. Each section also has a large overstuffed suede couch, long enough for 4-6 people to sit comfortably. Food and drink range form the ordinary to the extraordinary, from simple fare to elaborate and artful dishes that are delectable to not only the palate but the eyes as well. Huge paintings depicting scenes from legend; stories that the bards still weave tales and write ballads about.
The fights and races section is a place where you can bet on up and coming boxing matches and animal races and game winners as well as check on scores or winners of previous events. Frescoes of warriors cover the walls.
The card area is split into seven rooms for private card play. These rooms can be rented for a fee from any Rotunda Employee or foodgolem. The seventh pie-shaped room is larger to accommodate a larger party. Each room in this area is decorated differently. The burgundy room has a thick legged, rectangular mahogany table and chairs with a large wine rack along the wall. The Tan room has a thick round oak table with a center support boasting clawed feet and leather padded chairs as well as a jars of various pipeweds along the wall (a favorite of the Lords). The Green room has tall palm-like plants painted on the walls and a table that is a single large tree trunk, rubbed until it shines and the chairs seem to be made of branches. The Gold room has walls covered in golden silk as well as a table and chairs edged in gold leaf. The Blue room has a white birch table with padded high-back blue silk chairs and a sparkling crystal chandelier (this room is a favorite of court Ladies). The gray room has thick silvery-gray velvet tapestries hung on the walls and a and chairs made of poplar wood. The large pie-shaped room is known as the Mask Room as it is decorated in hundreds of masks and the long table that is situated diagonally has faces carved all about it’s edge.
The dicing and billiard section supplies tables for each, billiard poles are lined along the walls for you to chose your preference from.
Chance games include noisy gnome built slot machines and smaller roulette tables as well as many other games of chance.
The rooms check in area contains a desk and a large open area with a few comfortable chairs. Along the walls glyphs are scattered, indicating portals. Rooms are available for a fee and range from (depending on your devious -or not- activities) hourly rental to daily, weekly or monthly.
The main gambling floor houses games of all types, roulette, public card games, etc. The rug on this area if looked down upon is the image or a Tymoran coin. A woman holding a four-leaf clover. The tables can be cleared to the edges to create a boxing ring.
The second floor inner area contains an acting theater with a full size stage, a large open room that can be rented for meetings, events, etc. Shops including small weapons, armor, mundane items, magical items, clothing, potions etc can also be found here.
The third and fourth floors are rooms for rent, the larger outer rooms each have a balcony, some overlooking the city others the sea. The balcony rooms also boast a semi-private bath room. There is a large copper tub in a small sectioned off area with the added luxury of running water, and drain pipes. There is also a water-piped privy in these rooms.
